What it does
The Pet Name Generator produces cute, memorable names for dogs, cats, horses, babies, or a mix of everything — up to 1,000 per run from curated name pools per animal type. Seeded generation means the shortlist you loved yesterday can be regenerated today.
Common use cases
- Naming an actual pet — a hundred candidates beats staring at the new puppy waiting for inspiration (presets for dog, cat, and horse names).
- Games and stories — companions, mounts, and animal characters named in bulk.
- Apps and demos — pet-care and vet-app prototypes populated with plausible patient names.
- Family shortlists — generate a list, let everyone vote, keep the seed as the tiebreaker record.
Settings
- Animal type — dogs, cats, horses, babies, or any mix; each type draws from its own curated pool.
- How many — 1 to 1,000 names, exportable as text, CSV, or JSON.
- Seed — the same seed and type regenerate the identical list.
Privacy note
Names are generated locally in your browser and never uploaded. They’re drawn from curated lists — no data about you, your pets, or anyone else’s is involved.
FAQ
What makes a good pet name? Short and distinct wins: one or two syllables, hard consonants, and nothing that rhymes with a command you’ll use (“Beau” and “no” is a six-month mistake). Generate a batch and say the finalists out loud.
Are the pools different per animal? Yes — dog names skew friendly and shoutable, cat names skew elegant and ironic, horse names skew grand. The “any” mix samples across all pools.
Can I use these for characters? Absolutely — animal companions in fiction and games are the second most common use. For humans and fantasy races, see the Name and Fantasy Name generators.
